Trips & buddies¶

Plan vacations, see who you dive with, and review shared history — all from Profile and linked screens.

Trips¶

Open Profile → menu (☰) → Trips to see Trip planner.

The Trips title uses the same collapsible large-title header as Logbook — it compacts when you scroll the list and expands when you scroll back to the top.

Trip sections¶

Trips group into:

Upcoming — start date still in the future
Active — started but not ended
Past — ended

An upcoming trip also surfaces as a Trip on the horizon banner at the top of Logbook.

Create a trip¶

Tap + to open the full-height blue form (no grabber). Use Cancel to discard or Done to save:

Trip name (required)
Countries — optional; blue + beside the Countries title opens a searchable list with flag emojis (same mapping as place lines on the map). Tap to select one or more; Done saves the selection
Dates — tap the Start field to open its calendar; after you pick a start day, the End field appears and its calendar opens on that same month (change the end day anytime; it stays on or after start)
Buddies — optional; blue + beside the Buddies title opens the roster picker (Cancel, + for a new roster buddy, Done)

Trips cannot share any calendar days — if your dates overlap an existing trip, the form shows an error and Done stays disabled until you adjust the range.

Upcoming trips get local reminders 1 month before (Almost there!), 1 week before (Pack your bags!), and the day before (…is tomorrow!). There is no day-of reminder. Tapping a reminder opens that trip’s detail page. Turn trip reminders on or off in Settings → Notifications → Trip Reminders (also gated by All notifications).

Add planned dive sites on the trip detail page after saving (and you can still add or change buddies there). Tap + on planned sites to open the full-height blue picker (no grabber): Cancel discards changes; Done saves the selection. Add buddy on trip detail opens the same blue roster picker.

When you add a roster buddy who is already a GoDive friend (pin on their avatar) to a trip, GoDive asks whether to share this trip with them. If you share:

They get a push and a Home Notifications row
Opening it shows a copy of the trip in their planner as an Invite
They Accept to keep it or Decline to remove it (your trip is unchanged)
When they Accept, you get a Trip buddy joined push
On your trip’s buddies grid: You (yourself); GoDive friends show Invited, Joined, or an Invite button (if you skipped sharing earlier); local-only buddies have no status label

You remain the owner of trip details. If you change the name, dates, countries, or planned dive sites, their copy stays updated. They cannot edit those shared details on their copy.

Trip detail¶

Each trip opens a map-forward overview:

Hero map with planned (blue) and completed (red) site pins when applicable. On a planned (not-yet-started) trip with saved dive sites that have locations, the header opens on the map by default.
Stats — dive count, underwater time, deepest, longest (after the trip starts)
Pager pages depend on trip phase:

Use Edit (⋯ menu) to change the trip name, countries, dates, and buddies — same blue sheet as New trip (Cancel / Done; Delete trip at the bottom). Share exports a share card image with map, buddies, and species highlights (separate from sharing a trip copy with a GoDive friend).

Linking dives to trips¶

When a trip has started, dives whose dates fall inside the trip window can auto-link (each dive belongs to at most one trip). You can also link manually from trip detail. Linked dives appear under the trip header in Logbook.

Dive buddies¶

Open Profile → menu (☰) → Buddies for your roster.

The Buddies title compacts on scroll and expands when you return to the top of the list.

Your local dive buddy roster and GoDive friends appear in one list. Friends show the GoDive pin on the lower-right of their avatar; everyone else can be invited with Invite (SMS with your link). The QR button in the top bar still opens the share sheet for QR / copy link.

Roster¶

Each buddy shows name, optional photo, and dives together count. Tap + to open the blue New buddy sheet (Cancel / Done; optional Contacts link).

Buddy detail¶

Tap a buddy for:

Hero media or map of shared dive sites (toggle when sites exist)
Stats panel with avatar and dives-together count
Pager: Dives together, Trips together, Your tagged photos

On a buddy who is not already a GoDive friend, a blue + sits on the lower-right of their avatar (slightly overlapping the circle). Tap it to create a share link and open Messages — if that buddy is linked to a phone contact, the message goes to their number; otherwise the recipient field stays empty so you can pick who to send it to.

Tap a dive or photo to open dive detail or full-screen media. In full-screen media, the Home-style dive chip (lower left) opens the dive; buddy and fish share one glass control (lower right) and turn blue when that media is tagged. Tap ⋯ (upper right) to edit the buddy — change name and photo, Connect to Contact / Change contact, or Disconnect contact.

Tag buddies on a dive¶

On dive detail Map tab → Buddies → +:

Pick from your roster (checkmark to tag or untag)
Done saves all changes at once
+ creates a New buddy (blue sheet: Cancel / Done) with optional Contacts link

Importing FIT or UDDF files can create buddy names from the file; GoDive may fuzzy-match Contacts when you’ve granted access.

Delete a buddy¶

From buddy ⋯ → edit sheet, Delete buddy removes them from the roster and untags them on all dives (with confirmation).

Your name

GoDive won’t tag a buddy whose name closely matches your own profile name on import or manual add.

Profile → menu (☰) → Equipment locker stores your gear. The locker list uses the same scroll-collapsing Equipment Locker title as Trips and Buddies. Tap + for the full-height blue New equipment sheet (Cancel / Done). When Recurring service is on, you can choose local service reminders (1 month prior, 1 week prior, 1 day prior, and/or day of service — or No notifications). New gear follows Settings → Notifications → Gear Servicing (default 1 week when that toggle is on, none when off; also gated by All notifications); each item can override. Reminder text looks like Your [gear] needs service in 1 week (or today); tapping opens that item. Items with Auto-add on import link to new dives automatically. From dive detail Tank tab → Equipment, attach locker items to a specific dive.

Profile → menu (☰) → Certifications stores training cards with photos, agency, number, and date. Tap + to open the full-height blue New certification sheet (Cancel / Done). When you add a PADI card photo (digital eCard front, physical front, or physical back) while creating or editing a certification, GoDive reads the card on your device and can suggest the agency, certification name, number, date, instructor, dive shop, and shop identification number — review and edit before saving. The certifications list uses the same collapsible large-title header; each row shows the card photo, name with a certification/specialty badge, agency and #cert number, and the date attained. Open a card to see the photo header (switch Front / Back when both sides are saved), certification details including how many of your logged dives fall on or after the date you earned it, and instructor/shop info on a second page. On Profile Diver stats, your cards also appear as tiles (name, agency, date, and a small card-front photo on the right) that open the same detail page.

Photos and videos where you tagged yourself appear in the Profile header (hero), same idea as a buddy’s tagged-media banner.
