Dive detail

Open any dive from Logbook, Home, Explore, a buddy page, or a trip to see dive detail. The screen is built around three tabs and a draggable bottom sheet.

Three tabs

Use the back chevron (top leading) or swipe from the left screen edge to return to the previous screen.

On the large bottom sheet (not the map/chart header, and not the compact minimized sheet), swipe left/right to move between Map, Tank, and Media — same idea as swiping Me / Buddies in Logbook. Snorkel detail works the same way for Map, Heart rate, and Media.

Bottom sheet detents

The overview panel slides up from the bottom in three sizes:

1. Minimized (~20% of screen) — compact summary; map still visible behind
2. Medium (~50%) — headers, key stats, and primary sections
3. Large (~85%) — full scrollable detail including notes, tags, and edit affordances

Drag the grabber or sheet edge to change size. Switching tabs resets the sheet to medium.

Map tab

• Shows a map pin at the dive location when coordinates exist.
• If the dive is linked to a catalog dive site, the site name appears under the dive number; tap it to open that site in Explore. When region and country are known, the subtitle shows a country flag before the place line (for example 🇺🇸 Midway, Utah, United States).
• Medium and large detents show the stats box (max depth, average depth, surface interval, dive time), Dive Conditions, buddies, notes, and Tags. Tap ⋯ (top trailing on the stats box) to change dive metrics when editable.
• At the large detent, a Weather section (when the dive has map coordinates) shows conditions from Apple Weather for around entry time — temperature, condition, humidity, wind, and the day’s high/low. Imported dives and snorkels capture weather at import time and show it instantly when you reopen the dive; older dives without a stored snapshot still load live from Apple Weather. Dives before August 2021 show a short explanation instead. Apple’s weather attribution appears under the card.
• If the dive has a location hint but no linked site, GoDive may prompt you to add or match a dive site.

Tank tab

• Large retains the same dive identity header as Map (dive number, site name, place, date/time).
• Gas, cylinder, and consumption fields when import or manual entry provided them.
• Equipment row opens a sheet to link gear from your Equipment locker.
• A depth profile chart appears in the hero area at large (portrait band above the sheet) and at minimized (beside the small cylinder); landscape uses the full-width hero chart. The chart shows dive time (minutes) on the horizontal axis and depth (feet or meters from Settings) on the vertical axis. Hold and drag to scrub — the callout shows time and depth (and tank pressure when available). At large, pinch to zoom and two-finger pan when the dive is long enough; media thumbnails on the profile open a preview when present.
• SAC and RMV are calculated from tank pressure and depth when data allows — read-only.
• Some fields from file import (duration, max depth, bottom time, surface interval, average ascent rate) are read-only on imported dives; manual dives can edit more fields.

Tap a section ⋯ menu to edit all fields in that section in one sheet.

Media tab

• Full-bleed hero pager swipes between photos and videos.
• At large (portrait), the current item fits inside the hero strip above the sheet (full photo/video visible, letterboxed on the long edge). Drag the sheet down toward minimized and the media animates to full-screen fill; at minimized it stays edge-to-edge behind the compact panel. Landscape keeps full-bleed at every detent.
• When a dive has no media yet, the hero shows bouncing photo/video frames at minimized and medium (hidden at large) with a compact Liquid Glass Upload Media button directly under the animation in the hero band above the sheet. The overview sheet keeps its usual Media layout (identity header, Marine life and Buddies sections with tagging prompts, and the carousel row with +).
• The frosted Media overview panel (and the same overlay on full-screen media-grid playback) stays the same dark gray in light and dark mode so photos and videos remain readable underneath.
• Medium uses the same dive identity header as Map / Tank (dive number, site name, place, date/time). Fish / buddy sit on the trailing side of that header, aligned with the dive number, and expand the sheet to large.
• Carousel at minimized and medium detents jumps between items; oldest capture time on the left. At medium, the carousel sits near the bottom edge of the blue sheet (under Marine life and Buddies). + sits on the trailing edge of the carousel (same at minimized and medium).
• Star on a carousel preview marks the featured Logbook thumbnail (one per dive). Selected preview always shows a star (blue if featured, white if not — tap to toggle). Featured previews keep a smaller blue star when not selected; non-featured, unselected previews show no star.
• At medium, tagged Marine life ovals and a Buddies row of profile avatars appear above the carousel (tap to open the large overview on that mode). Empty prompts invite tagging.
• At large, Fishial sparkles and tag + sit upper-left (sparkles leads + on fish mode when AI identify is available). Upload (photo +) sits upper-right — same corner as the minimized carousel +.
• Videos play muted and loop on the visible page; hold briefly to pause.

Marine life on media

Tag catalog species on a photo or video frame. At large detent, the centered fish/buddy toggle stays pinned at the top with tag/AI controls on the upper left and upload on the upper right, while tagged species details or buddy photos scroll underneath (soft fade, not a hard cut). On fish mode, the species panel shows the catalog photo by default (3D only when no picture ships). Sparkles (Fishial AI, when configured) sits left of tag + in one glass control — tap sparkles to identify, + to open the blue Tag marine life picker (Cancel / + new species / Done; buddy mode + opens the buddy tag picker). Tap a buddy’s photo to open their buddy page. On fish mode, Learn More opens that species in Field Guide.

On Tag buddy, × (upper left) or swipe the sheet down closes without saving; trailing + adds a roster buddy, and Done saves the tags. Both tag sheets open full height (large only).

If Fishial is configured in the app build, a sparkles control can suggest species from a cropped still (network required). Identify opens a full-height blue sheet (Cancel; Continue / Identify / Done as you move through scrub, crop, and confirm).

Sharing with buddies

New activities stay local only until you publish them. If you have GoDive friends:

• A bright blue Share with Buddies? banner sits just above the details sheet on Map (when the sheet is expanded). Share publishes to Buddy Feed; Dismiss (×) keeps the activity private. You can still share later from Activity Settings.
• Tap ⋯ (top right) for Activity Settings — per-activity share, media, and private notes toggles, upload status, and Delete dive / Delete snorkel at the bottom.
• After an activity is shared, the Map large detent shows the same like and comment row friends see (you can read and reply; you cannot like your own activity).
• When editing notes, type @ to mention a GoDive friend (autocomplete). Saving notes tags them on the activity if they are not already tagged.

Tags (map tab)

Tags are free-form labels on a dive (separate from marine life species tags). Tap a tag chip to open its detail page — a blue sheet with the same five pages as an active trip (Overall stats, Dive activities, Marine life, Buddies, Media) and a media/map toggle in the hero when tagged dives have site coordinates. Use + on the Tags section or the overview sheet to add, pick, or remove tags.

Buddies

On the map overview, Buddies lists people tagged on this dive. When more avatars than fit on one row, swipe sideways to see the rest (the right edge softens instead of cutting off). Tap an avatar to open that buddy’s detail page. + opens the buddy picker from your roster or lets you create a new buddy.

Marine Life (map tab)

Under Buddies on the map overview, Marine Life lists every unique species tagged on this dive — both species tagged on photos/videos and species you add directly here. The same species only appears once even if it was tagged in media and on the map. Each chip shows a circular avatar (3D model when the Field Guide has one, otherwise the species photo, otherwise a fish icon) with the common name underneath. When the row overflows, swipe sideways — the trailing edge fades softly. Tap a chip to open Field Guide. + opens the species picker to add dive-level tags.

Landscape

Rotate your phone sideways on dive detail:

• Map fills the screen interactively; the sheet hides.
• Tank shows a wide depth chart with media markers on the profile.
• Media uses a full-bleed pager.

Portrait returns the sheet layout.

Deep links

• From Logbook, tapping the row thumbnail opens this dive on Media at that item.
• From Home carousel, tapping the hero opens the same focused media view.

Editing and source info

• Manual dives — most summary fields editable via section edit sheets.
• Imported dives — source, import format, and source dive ID are read-only; many metrics from the file stay read-only.
• Operator and source & import details appear at large detent on the tank tab.
